Snow!

Mrrrr Friends,

As I predicted, we got a nice layer of snow after our return from The Big City!

Here's what I saw on my morning walk.

That's my brook with all those nice tall snow hats.

Then, looking back at our house.

And it snowed big up at the Pony's place too.

He says he could live without it.

Me, I'm loving it. Though the temps are awfully cold and my paws are not yet acclimated? Still nobody makes cat mukluks?

Snow party!

The Plan 23.12.12

Over the Ausable River....

And thru the woods

To Granma's house we go

The horse knows the way to carry the sleigh

Through the white and drifted snow!

Over the river and through the woods to Granma's house we all go

With kibble for all, we'll have quite a ball, and be back in Upper Jay for more snow!

Happy Holidays and continuing Cat-Solstice to all my friends and readers. Mrrrrrrrwwww!

Snow!

Mrrrr Friends,

The photo says it all.

It's a start right? Over by the Placid Lake they have lots more snow but they are about 700' higher than us here in the Adirondack Banana Belt. 50' can make a big difference out here.

My brook looks nice in the frosty layer, yes?

The cat's paws need to acclimate but already the wide toe-stance of the Wisconsin Snowcat breed is evident in the twacks.

You better finish up getting your cat toys for your favorite feline friends today...remember, biscotti are kibble!

Happy Cat - Solstice!

Mrrrrr Friends,

Aren't you glad the world didn't end!

Mrrrawesome!

Happy Cat-Solstice...see the postie a couple down if you are clueless about why this is Cat-Solstice...I mean, really, what rock have you been hiding under?

....perhaps though you are a dog owner recently come to catawareness.

Join in the Cat-solstice celebration...hug a cat. Just make sure he doesn't have fleas. I don't have fleas...you can come hug me. Just call ahead to avoid the lines.

In a pinch you can hug a dog or a horse.

Biscotti is Kibble & Santa Bobbi

Mrrrrrr!

Seriously, didn't you know? Those crunchy biscotti things that make you people grimace when you bite them: they are cat kibble. Why didn't you know this?

Don't be dunking those in coffee making them all squishy like stinky goodness! GIVE THEM TO THE CAT! He will eat them.

Okay, Oom likes them too. And she doesn't so much grimace when she chomps on them, but she will make them mushy in hot liquids and that's just sacrilege.

We don't usually get to eat biscotti, perhaps this is why my people seem so clueless about how to eat them and WHO should be eating them, but Santa Bobbi came to deliver them a couple days ago. (I don't think she has reindeer...German horses instead.) Probably she knew Cat-Solstice was coming and she needed to appease the universal cat vibe, so she brought me these treats. Santa Bobbi would know right? that they are cat kibble? Right?

But then Oom and Boo started eating my treats! I protested, Oom proffered one, and the reason this photo is so blurry is that I am moving in on this thing like a leopard on a gazelle.

I am sharing them because it is the season of sharing. But seriously, they need leave the tin cracked more often.

Cat-Solstice 2012: Party Time!

Mrrrrr Friends in Fur,

Mrow! Cat-Solstice is upon us! Strap in cat lovers - Friday night feline rumble!

Cat-Solstice is the primo feline holiday; it celebrates nighttime. Your feline loves nighttime.

Cat-Solstice falls on Friday 21 December in these parts and has the longest dark of any day of the year. Depending on where any furry cat guy or gal lives, their longest night may fall just before or after official Northern Hemisphere Cat-Solstice. Therefore, cats worldwide celebrate over multiple days by engaging in extra nighttime prowling, scampering, mischief, and quiet nighttime contemplation.

Yes, that's us staring at you much of the night, we're still wondering when you'll grow fur.

I'm giving you fair warning so you can start giving your favorite feline extra love, extra kibble, and plenty of cat treats on Thursday and right through your cool tree holiday (though we suspect you made up your holiday so you could party with us).

Even when we scamper into the decorated tree branches, lick the top of the fresh baked pie crust, or hurl a hairball on a wrapped present, your peace on earth goodwill toward critters vibe will probably put you in the mood to handle it.

For those of you who didn't know that Cat-Solstice was such a big deal, you still have time to run out and buy cool cat treats for us. Indeed, we'll roll with it right into the whole human New Year, accepting presents graciously as you bring them to us.

If you need any gift advice, just check my earlier posts with a full "cat-toy review" - see the cloud links all the way at the bottom of the blog.

Moving On From Cat v Dog

Mrrrrr Friends,

So there has been a lot of back and forth in our community e-newsletter of late. Cats better than dogs, dogs better than cats...purportedly written by cats and dogs. I think some of the milder dispatches - depicting lovely hikes up Noonmark and the like - are likely penned by some local canine cousins of mine, but I see human hands behind the "species-ist" claims.

So, I couldn't resist, I sent the following:

LET'S MOVE ON

Mrrrr Cat Colleagues, Gentledogs, and Human People,

Chill out. The dog versus cat debate is tired.

Yes, dogs have larger brains (primarily from constantly figuring out how to deal with humans), but cats have twice the neurons in their cerebral cortex (the goodies responsible for learning and memory). Dogs make their people get up in the wee hours to, uh, wee. Cats expect their people to clean the box (which they do not do enough). Dogs valiantly go to war solely to protect humans and can find them when they get lost on mountains. Cats serve as guides for blind dogs, have been trained as guard cats, and even, in an experiment last century, delivered the mail in several Belgian towns (okay, they took longer than pigeons, but it was very cute).

I take walks with my human every morning, I’ve been up the side of Sentinel and down to January Jams at the Recovery Lounge. I like to sail and am not afraid of water. I am a cat. I have cat friends right here in Upper Jay who also walk with their humans. Granted, walking is not so linear with a cat….it’s a different experience.

Bottom line, human friends, is that the seeming limitations of your companion animal friends often have more to do with your imagination, patience, and how you choose to engage with us, rather that with our physical and mental abilities – or the very nature of our species. We depend on you to treat us with respect and care for us, so we can care for you. We revel in your individuality and hope you will help us realize ours.

It’s a season of goodwill. For every dog and cat, horse and caged bird in a loving home, there may be 2 to 3 more that are homeless. Consider adopting, consider a generous donation to your local shelter, and hug a cat or dog today. Whichever species, we’re good for you.

Your friend in fur,

Diesel T Hecat

Mrrrr Friends,

My human contacts say the skiing on the mountain with the White Face is quite good. But we got nothing, nada snow-wise down here at lower elevations. They call the nice valley where I live the Banana Belt...it's always a little warmer here.

Nevertheless, my brook is nice right now.

If you walk down to the bottom and lookie over on the far side...

You'll see the cool (seriously, really frozen cool) icy, dangly things.

That's a root ball from two BIG white ash trees that bought it when the brook became a raging river during Hurricane Irene...bad woman. The water spashies up on the little sticky outie thingies and they get dangly icy.

I gotta say though, I have an Ant Irene and she is very nice.

That's what you humans call a non-sequiter right?

I feel a little light-headed...time for some chow.

Mrrrr.

It's Winter & There's No Snow

Mrrrrr Friends,

Blogging hasn't been high on my list lately. You've noticed, mrrr eh? Give a cat a break...there's all that eating and sleeping to do. And I am excelling at sleeping lately. I think I'm logging about 20 hours a day. Mrrrrhee.

There's no snow so there's really only so much a Wisconsin Snowcat can do besides hibernate and wait. Not that I don't get out daily to check out my world. But it's just waiting for snow too.

See what I'm saying?

I do regularly check on my brook...there's been some nice icy droopy formations, but my photographer keeps forgetting to bring her camera on my walks. Ahem. She keeps complaining it is broke. So no icy thingys for you to look at.

I'll work on her. She's unemployed now except for being my person and palling around with The Big Guy. You know about him right? Boo says he's her boyfriend...ahem. He is a nice guy though, and I don't mind sharing. Oom has The Big Love for us both.

Yep, the grass is still a bit green here...though that's an older photo.

You notice how the camera works for her okay when she's with him, right? Mrrrrrhhhhmmmm.
